Last year Emma and I made White Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Rods with Sprinkles for her friends at school. It was such a fun and simple, no-prep project for us that took less than an hour from start to finish. This year, I wanted to do something similar, but incorporate her favorite food in the entire world - popcorn. Or Pah-Corn, as she would say. I had no idea how much toddlers love popcorn. Apparently they are obsessed with it in her class.
We both loved making this project. I let Emma be in charge and she worked hard at piling the sheet pans with popcorn and pretzels, then drizzled the melted chocolate. She was very proud!
I packaged them (during naptime...) using :
- Large Cello Bags ($14.50 for 20)
- Kraft Rectangle Printable Labels ($6 for 60).
- Download Popcorn Label Template, here.
I have uploaded the PDF of this "Chocolate Drizzled Popcorn & Pretzels" Label, here, for downloading so you can print at home. The labels come in a creamy white circles or rectangles, too.
I'm sure you've all seen "Moose Munch" out there - popcorn dressed up with chocolate, caramel, nuts, etc. I simplified our version and made it with Skinny Pop Popcorn (Costco!) added pretzels and drizzled it with melted milk chocolate, then a sprinkling of Sea Salt. We left out the peanuts because there are a couple of allergic kids in her class.
It is the perfect salty & sweet snack to keep around for the holidays - would look great dumped into a bowl for cocktail time, or if friends drop by. And, of course, it is nice to have a treat that the kids (and adults) will go crazy for (addicting!) that isn't completely made out of sugar.
Here is what the labels look like printed out. I recommend doing a test page before you print on the labels in case you need to adjust them a little. I like to use the rectangles vertically for projects like these
This bag to the right was a Medium Cello Bag (vs. the Large in the first photo). It is a really nice size, too, and I will use these for our gifts. The bigger bags work great for family size... in fact, I may even use the Small Size Cello bag for Emma's classmates.
Chocolate Drizzled
Popcorn & Pretzels
- Popcorn (we used Skinny Pop, but any will work - thinking of using Kettle Corn next time)
- Pretzels
- Milk Chocolate Chips (you Dark fans out there can use Dark Chips)
- Sea Salt
Spread the popcorn and pretzels in a sheet pan.
Melt the chocolate in the microwave 30 seconds at a time, then stir, then repeat for 30 seconds until melted - maybe takes total of 1.5 minutes. Sprinkle the sea salt over the drizzled chocolate. Let the chocolate harden after drizzling on popcorn for a couple of hours, or it will make the bags messy.
Hard at work!
: )
While the chocolate was hardening...
She discovered her chocolate beard in the mirror. She really looks like her Dad in this picture!
Let them dry for a couple of hours, or the chocolate will be messy when you bag them up.
Thanks for sharing such as informative post!
