All of the walls will be painted a creamy white like this photo (except bedrooms).  We're hoping there will be room in our budget to add some paneling accents that will be painted, too.  It is something we can do later, so if we're running over budget during construction, we might save it for another year.<br /><br />I'm also embracing traditional rugs that contain reds, burnt oranges and deep navy blues.  Of course, I still like muted pale blue landscapes and seascapes in gilt frames (like the one Mike painted for me).   I've also discovered that I really like contrast, so instead of my typical in-between tones, I'm going for creamy walls and black accents... even debating soapstone counters.  <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZWfZu-CF-lb3Qi_w8wg5tJwNYwRfVGPGJ5pVJiLYTiMtmP_JXi_gvvN5bkZIBteQt0as0r_FZne7ZKzjP4o6OwFkvVpf5Qnu_iHVDlY9mIoW15AGed7p_nFtz33jopOrxxC_JsNP1HFcf/s1600/757dd17090069963e87aca31fc1cb856.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZWfZu-CF-lb3Qi_w8wg5tJwNYwRfVGPGJ5pVJiLYTiMtmP_JXi_gvvN5bkZIBteQt0as0r_FZne7ZKzjP4o6OwFkvVpf5Qnu_iHVDlY9mIoW15AGed7p_nFtz33jopOrxxC_JsNP1HFcf/s1600/757dd17090069963e87aca31fc1cb856.jpg" width="570" /></a> <br /><br />I love the traditional, easy, and season-less look of this house.  I want to make sure our wood floors are stained a similar warm walnut/chestnut color.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo9FMje0hwIQ9zuvV4UtNlVPXV8gZSP9rPV1zyHLAKA7RlaSe9XSV-mV5cfDVmykuuq70AQ_I7bY0K1D0AcP3iSs2cFTVqHAS38-qx-7Sz_vmWmJwe5_cV_5HH8GIXSvABcCxOsCeTaQgf/s1600/e658c8690adc.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo9FMje0hwIQ9zuvV4UtNlVPXV8gZSP9rPV1zyHLAKA7RlaSe9XSV-mV5cfDVmykuuq70AQ_I7bY0K1D0AcP3iSs2cFTVqHAS38-qx-7Sz_vmWmJwe5_cV_5HH8GIXSvABcCxOsCeTaQgf/s1600/e658c8690adc.jpg" /></a> <br /><br />For the floor coverings, we'll have wood throughout the main areas, but use slate tiles in the mudroom.  I'll be adding a natural color runner up the stairs, in the new bedrooms and using similar throw rugs for accents in high traffic areas.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxMxGqmLfW68tvhgWtwccmCMP9I1Tid4hM66LNiMsfSZwYnPf7Ca5zuT8TWL33b06dzJozujSuLcH1FsYbNmvLbxSOq6jqJXkY45FDHHe5oEO-w-v0IiJ9zfKb1LHfSGnHkyoStmbQaXgc/s1600/IMG_8587.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxMxGqmLfW68tvhgWtwccmCMP9I1Tid4hM66LNiMsfSZwYnPf7Ca5zuT8TWL33b06dzJozujSuLcH1FsYbNmvLbxSOq6jqJXkY45FDHHe5oEO-w-v0IiJ9zfKb1LHfSGnHkyoStmbQaXgc/s1600/IMG_8587.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>For light fixtures and door hardware, I like all un-lacquered brass that has a soft, antique finish.  I am still planning to use my favorite lanterns (above in my own dining room) from Cape Cod Lighting Co. everywhere I can.  I'm picturing them above the kitchen island, dining table, foyer and even one above our soaking tub in the bathroom.  <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFkm2Rp-ErrOh5xRIgu1cN_pQvZ-T2nQ4AunbQpjYIsWeeCJo9p5iAFMRGTvknCOl0QM6eYSkddn3wVMtNZTujfJvbRn16IoEO59Dua0AjW-Zza8rTwdGcV37RWyBA8ppLjptZ6xo643ld/s1600/e61f6e7eaf1d64bedad660ad665871c2.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFkm2Rp-ErrOh5xRIgu1cN_pQvZ-T2nQ4AunbQpjYIsWeeCJo9p5iAFMRGTvknCOl0QM6eYSkddn3wVMtNZTujfJvbRn16IoEO59Dua0AjW-Zza8rTwdGcV37RWyBA8ppLjptZ6xo643ld/s1600/e61f6e7eaf1d64bedad660ad665871c2.jpg" /></a><br /><br />I also want to make sure we incorporate some creative details, like this vanity.  Would love this for the downstairs powder room.<br /><br />What do you think?  I'd love to hear your thoughts about the soapstone vs. the marble or wood tops.  Thanks for all of your help!<br /><br /> <a data-pin-config="beside" data-pin-do="buttonPin" href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fjennysteffens.blogspot.com%2F2014%2F07%2Finterior-design-board-our-new-addition.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-a49W-rxE61s%2FU8VqaicNvDI%2FAAAAAAAAYIU%2F0V4dPn1leYw%2Fs1600%2Finterior%2Binspiration.jpg&description=Traditional%2C%20Warm%20%26%20Cozy%20Interior%20Design%20Board"><img src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/pidgets/pinit_fg_en_rect_gray_20.png" /></a><!-- Please call pinit.js only once per page --><script async="" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Emma's Big Girl Room Inspiration Board

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It's that time.  Time for Emma to have her own big girl room.  I know what you're thinking - aren't you in the middle of remodeling your house?  Yes, we are, well, sort of.  We are very, very close.  We've hit some delays.  (Inevitable, I've been told.)  It looks like construction is still a couple of months away at this point.  Groan.  </div><br />While we're still waiting to get the final tweaks back from the architect (going on 3 weeks now...), I got antsy.  We've been living in our house for a year and a half now, in limbo.  We don't want to fix anything or fix anything up, because we're getting ready to rip it all out.  It is really starting to drive me crazy - the trim that needs touching up, the light fixtures that are broken, the floors that need refinishing... all of the little things here and there that continue to add up, are driving me a little crazy.  It is my nature to fix things.  I love fixing things. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFWl-pMXhWodKYbqfARG783J9TAsQ_EJBLuFBNslX3AbHfgoo1X4ZPIZlK44s3A90-KAdgiVd8cZ3QOzYq6bQt9Rh2hxb6YVE4ZDivYDhV6eQax9YfQjBvXM1O98YT5KhvCdB6UTv81JAY/s1600/emma's-room.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFWl-pMXhWodKYbqfARG783J9TAsQ_EJBLuFBNslX3AbHfgoo1X4ZPIZlK44s3A90-KAdgiVd8cZ3QOzYq6bQt9Rh2hxb6YVE4ZDivYDhV6eQax9YfQjBvXM1O98YT5KhvCdB6UTv81JAY/s1600/emma's-room.jpg" width="454" /></a> Mike asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day.  My answer, to decorate Emma's room.  I spent Mother's Day running around town, pinning (<a href="http://www.pinterest.com/jennysteffens/emma-s-wish-list/">here</a>) and gathering bedding and inspiration.  Finally, a house project!  </div><br />It wasn't until last week that I finally decided to have Emma's room stay Emma's room even after construction has completed.  We'd debated moving her into our old room, but I just love her room, for her.  It is small, cozy with nooks and crannies, and a huge closet that doubles as a secret play area.<br /><br />I want her "new" room to feel very collected and layered, with a touch of feminine and fairytale whimsy.  I love the photo in the upper left corner of the floral wallpaper, but, I'm taking that idea and applying it to the bedding I selected (right corner).  It is from Pottery Barn Kids - white fabric with a rosy/brown woodland fairytale print.  I also bought the white ruffle sheets pictured here.  <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm planning a wall gallery of framed prints, sketches and blank frames to display her own artwork.  I am working on collecting the prints now.  So far, I have the vintage Winnie the Pooh illustrations I bought from the Brimfield Antique Show two years ago.  Mr. Darcy's favorite toy is his Pooh Bear, and seeing these illustrations remind me of Emma and D for some reason : )  I also have some classic nursery rhyme book pages to frame, and her sillouette cutout.  I've been looking all over for a gallery wall that is exactly what I have in mind, but I haven't been able to find one that I love.  I know they have been done, and done again, which makes me a little hesitant, but I think I have a great vision for it... fingers crossed. </div><br />I am waiting on furniture for now - but still hunting.  I'd love a real, old farmhouse pine chest of drawers.  I think I'd like it to be a reproduction so the drawers work nicely, though.  Anyone have an idea of where to start?  I haven't decided on a bed, either... maybe upholstered?  Maybe stripped down pine?  <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">   </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs16NM8T3dtMNc5Uor1ViDwkTibFRVQNAWPM2JGSV_fC3T-klhGO1Ue5Lqr6N4smcpMV_siP0Jqmi1WCgyBUXVgS5pkriVGgMDKxJS0stolUITgtAtbkj8Z-66Ru0Id4wA5ZLvH90kcVPP/s1600/IMG_8562.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; text-align: left;">This is Emma's room as it stands now (more details <a href="http://jennysteffens.blogspot.com/2012/12/emmas-room-soft-pink-ivory-room-with.html">here</a> in the original reveal post) the one and only room that will not be effected by the construction, because I love everything about it.   I love the paint color on the walls that we painted when we moved in - Pristine, by Benjamin Moore.  The trim is painted in Navajo White - giving a very subtle tone-on-tone look to the room.  Both are very creamy colors.  </div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi62Q8INd33TYDMWovuwr1GdBEnOWy7gxRnorS8DD038z0DwMRr4yNyrDIrdVNGWbJ0zKfFJ2cQEm4E4SscPzPAP5OnT528rEMYDiFI6NDt1HoMxAYETlBx62oRObsvCMdTPCokAz6U0STC/s1600/IMG_8564.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; I feel like I'm just picking things in my typical shades and calling it a day.  </div><br />For the moment, I've ordered the satin stitch duvet and shams from Restoration Hardware in Ivory with a Ash grey stitched stripe (pictured in the top left of this photo).  They came in the mail a couple of weeks ago and I really like them.  It is a little more refined than my beds have been in the past, but it is really very classic looking and I think it will give our room a luxurious feel without much fussiness.  <br /><br />I think I'm going to go with Pumice on the walls (see light cool grey paint chip on the bottom center of the photo to the left).  Or should I go with the dark gravel?  Would that give the room more of a distinct look?   I feel like the lighter grey will be very soothing and classic.  Right?  Or boring?  Hum...<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSFuhljixa5s9gQmnYRWpJ0AaC1JZwvmTxPDtpZHCoJInuL49TyU81Jq8B2CvltNdHlPmUNie8YdEDAVN0N7xk6Fo7dzd-QZaTP6V9ev9CoPKgKV43CWfXnLCo9uffnw7T8rlVtT6JFbK5/s1600/IMG_8458.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSFuhljixa5s9gQmnYRWpJ0AaC1JZwvmTxPDtpZHCoJInuL49TyU81Jq8B2CvltNdHlPmUNie8YdEDAVN0N7xk6Fo7dzd-QZaTP6V9ev9CoPKgKV43CWfXnLCo9uffnw7T8rlVtT6JFbK5/s640/IMG_8458.JPG" width="640" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div> We'll be keeping the<a href="http://jennysteffens.blogspot.com/2012/07/we-built-bed-diy-wooden-headboard.html"> new headboard that we made (see DIY here!)</a> and will be finishing it with the foot board and side rails, making it a hefty freestanding, real bed. <br /><br />The next decision will be on what accent blankets... I love the look and feel of real wool blankets and I found these on <a href="http://www.katyelliott.com/blog/2010/01/striped-wool-blankets.html">Katy Elliott's blog (another blogger from Massachusetts</a>).  Like her, I'm drawn to the neutral light grey and taupe selections from Prince Edward Island from MacAusland Woolen Mills.  Aren't they pretty?  Starting at $49 for a throw and $89 for a queen blanket sounds amazing to me for a really classic wool blanket.  Now, if I could just decide which one(s)...<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAJ96_UQtqNaKm-hDQ3PjNcSPH1bp9V3sGBNNhw4YnDXkmrDfKzsYj_dbo4-CuqFj-qnQJlDPab18cp3EagjEb9dVgQWcBMs4WDosz1TMH4g86KYSupthd6RFR_xUEfBRWJ3atXLDD9nOL/s1600/drk+greybln1-l.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAJ96_UQtqNaKm-hDQ3PjNcSPH1bp9V3sGBNNhw4YnDXkmrDfKzsYj_dbo4-CuqFj-qnQJlDPab18cp3EagjEb9dVgQWcBMs4WDosz1TMH4g86KYSupthd6RFR_xUEfBRWJ3atXLDD9nOL/s320/drk+greybln1-l.jpg" width="192" /> </a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifSzlfNDbr856SUP9fdAApNrNMB6oe_SD18NpmDRkbd0_JxuqhtUbfK4Fn8hulApUqXK6AO3Ox-FqZesBlBIeAIMW9Y5lHKWX_IfIs_v3QGlhO1Fd8B__uTJ-pLye1WXE2zBBq8wRHBpuH/s1600/lt+grey.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifSzlfNDbr856SUP9fdAApNrNMB6oe_SD18NpmDRkbd0_JxuqhtUbfK4Fn8hulApUqXK6AO3Ox-FqZesBlBIeAIMW9Y5lHKWX_IfIs_v3QGlhO1Fd8B__uTJ-pLye1WXE2zBBq8wRHBpuH/s320/lt+grey.jpg" width="192" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyCV8cAPAi41iZ9mcWh99AI_lUUk7FasCjNeyakLmwslre2KUkNsnWzwsb0nFd34t_c7RhIqTqzzOdWZAvi58oI-WFgAv09mZTfyT48ai4FXyNDBD6LtHk7a_5x_tlx76aDayQMF_K_CWh/s1600/taupeblt11-l.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyCV8cAPAi41iZ9mcWh99AI_lUUk7FasCjNeyakLmwslre2KUkNsnWzwsb0nFd34t_c7RhIqTqzzOdWZAvi58oI-WFgAv09mZTfyT48ai4FXyNDBD6LtHk7a_5x_tlx76aDayQMF_K_CWh/s320/taupeblt11-l.jpg" width="192" /></a></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPNr_y4mcMQx_VmDxWdOY5Fz7F6ma4c3Wf3AMtWH25rJtqLvimSeAXBhKfhMsKnRElFTTpiYG0WAUOdPXM-dWFda4v0x7sRvWVRus9qJqAuPtaU_yGbJN1NIRyJ97xVje29Ebxv9Y4mroa/s1600/alpacas7d3.scene7.com.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwwxhJu0o2BLeyTSZl1oFT0eKLuU9cRVrUnJrS5D12p5jlcto_gd5fnCr5dnPvLm17lQYXU9XNI5UaYfLHaysMe4JMZTcZIXcu89xnZ0pSZ_-69DcghFj-vRptC1uxnG9NJhYtFsCbczWe/s1600/s7d3.scene7.com.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwwxhJu0o2BLeyTSZl1oFT0eKLuU9cRVrUnJrS5D12p5jlcto_gd5fnCr5dnPvLm17lQYXU9XNI5UaYfLHaysMe4JMZTcZIXcu89xnZ0pSZ_-69DcghFj-vRptC1uxnG9NJhYtFsCbczWe/s320/s7d3.scene7.com.jpg" width="240" /></a><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPNr_y4mcMQx_VmDxWdOY5Fz7F6ma4c3Wf3AMtWH25rJtqLvimSeAXBhKfhMsKnRElFTTpiYG0WAUOdPXM-dWFda4v0x7sRvWVRus9qJqAuPtaU_yGbJN1NIRyJ97xVje29Ebxv9Y4mroa/s320/alpacas7d3.scene7.com.jpg" width="240" /><br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then there are these (above) from Pendleton...
